Happy New Year to everyone! As we step into 2025, I want to wish you all health, happiness, and success in the year ahead. This year is all about taking bold steps—both in life and in running—and I’m so excited to share this journey with you.
After a short holiday in beautiful Seville, I returned home, and boy oh boy, what a welcome! Below-freezing temperatures, icy paths, and eventually snow. For all of us training for an event, this weather is truly testing our resolve. But as always, it’s about adapting and moving forward. Here’s how I’ve been navigating the start of the new year.
To stay consistent despite the weather, I’ve joined a gym. I’ve always dreaded the treadmill, but I’m learning to adapt. Listening to podcasts and observing what’s going on around the gym has been surprisingly entertaining and helps pass the time. Still, I’m keeping my long runs outdoors—there’s nothing quite like fresh air, even in freezing conditions. If the icy weather persists, I’m considering investing in Yaktrax or spikes for better traction.
I’ve also found my current Running plan a bit challenging and tiring. To avoid burnout, I’ve decided to scale back slightly, focusing on fewer sessions but making them more effective. It’s a balancing act, but I’m committed to staying consistent while listening to my body.
One regret from this month is missing Park runs due to cancellations. It’s been disappointing not to keep up with them, especially after building some momentum in December. However, this week looks more promising, and I’m hopeful to restart and reconnect with the Parkrun community.
In a burst of motivation, I’ve signed up for a half marathon this weekend. I have no expectations except to complete it. It’ll be my first race of the year, and I’m excited to see how it feels. This will be a great way to test my endurance and kickstart the racing season.
As I train for the London Marathon 2025, I’m also raising funds and awareness for Diabetes UK. This cause is close to my heart because lifestyle changes can make such a difference in preventing and managing diabetes. My marathon journey is also a platform to spread this message and inspire others to take that first step toward better health.
Every small contribution helps—not just to reach my fundraising target but also to support Diabetes UK’s incredible work. If you’d like to support this mission, you can find more details and donate here. Together, we can make a big difference.
January has been a reminder that the journey to the marathon is about persistence, patience, and adaptability. The challenges of winter training are real, but so are the rewards of pushing through. Here’s to making the most of the opportunities ahead, one frosty step at a time!
Thank you for your support, and let’s make 2025 a year to remember.
