Training has been going smoothly lately—I’ve been feeling stronger, my running has been improving, and I’ve been increasing my strength with exercises like Romanian Deadlifts and push-ups. Everything was moving in the right direction, and I was feeling lucky… until last weekend.
I was out for my usual long run, aiming to complete 10 miles on a Sunday morning along the canal. Things were going great, and I was nearly home, when out of nowhere, a rude cyclist zipped past me, shouting, “Cyclist here, give way!” I was so shocked by it that I lost focus, and that’s when it happened—my right foot rolled, and for a moment, I couldn’t move.
But, in typical fashion, I brushed it aside and finished the last mile and a half. I thought I could shake it off, but the swelling and pain in my ankle wouldn’t go away. I still went ahead with my personal training session on Monday, determined not to disrupt my consistency, but it was clear things weren’t looking good.
The Injury and Recovery
I decided to take it seriously after getting advice from my PT. I had to rest—no training on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. In the meantime, I sought some extra help: taping, physio, and advice from Dr. Joe Rice. Things started to look better after a few days. By Sunday, I managed to do a slow 3-mile run, and today (Tuesday), I’ve got my ankle taped up with Kinesio tape. Fingers crossed this is just a small dip in the journey!
On the Brighter Side: Lifestyle Leap Progress
While my running had a temporary setback, things have been going really well with our next batch of Lifestyle Leap participants. Last Sunday, even though my ankle was giving me trouble, I didn’t want to cancel the session—because those who know me know I never back down that easily!
We had a great session that included strength training for the core and legs, breathing exercises, and meditation, along with the usual gentle run. I even introduced a hydration challenge for the week, which the group really enjoyed. It’s amazing how something as simple as staying hydrated can have such a profound impact on our energy levels and overall well-being.
The Hydration Challenge
In our 7-day hydration challenge, participants set a daily hydration goal, and we’ve been tracking our progress online through the Lifestyle Leap platform. It’s been fantastic to see the engagement and positive feedback from everyone involved. Small daily changes are making a huge difference, and it’s a great reminder of how vital these little habits are to our health.
If you’re interested in joining, feel free to reach out—we’re always welcoming new participants!
Looking Forward
Despite the injury, I’m taking this setback as an opportunity to strengthen my feet and ankles. It’s actually a good thing that this weak spot was identified earlier in my marathon preparation. This way, by the time I begin my 16-week marathon plan, I hope to be fighting fit and ready to tackle the challenge head-on.
As the days get cooler and shorter, I’ll be focusing on rebuilding my strength and staying consistent with my training—both for myself and for the Lifestyle Leap community. Stay safe, stay active, and I’ll catch up with you all soon!
